My father, a classic car collector, taught me the beauty of vintage engines as I watched him restore his Austin Healeys, Jaguars and Mercedes.
The smell of dirty engine oil has always both attracted and repelled me.
Although I associated it with happy moments in life, this "engine sweat" with its pungent odors of tar, gasoline and oil was also disturbing.
Years later, reading Jacques Lacarrière's book Ce bel et vivace aujourd'hui, I finally understood the hidden poetry of this "black slime" and decided to use it for inspiration.

My dirty motor oil will have the warmth of amber and animalic musks, tinged with an accord of guaiac wood and violet leaf. Sulfur notes of cassia bud mixed with aldehydes will highlight the metallic contours, while mandarin essential oil will add a chrome shine. "
